Wound care Services - Complex, post-op & Maintenance

Why choose us for your care?

At The Independent Nurse, you don’t have to wait for referrals or long NHS delays to get the wound care you need. Our Southmead clinic in Bristol offers timely, professional support for lower limb wounds, complex or non-healing wounds, pressure injuries and surgical wound care. We also provide compression therapy and ongoing management to aid healing and prevent complications. All care is delivered by experienced, NMC-registered nurses in a calm, supportive environment. As a fully CQC-registered service, we prioritise safe, ethical care with clear clinical standards.

What This Service Includes

Our wound care service is designed to provide comprehensive, specialist-led treatment for a wide range of needs. With an excellent track record and positive patient testimonials, we focus on achieving the best outcomes through skilled nursing, evidence-based practice, and a holistic approach to care.

Our service includes:

  • Complex and non-healing wound management – specialist treatment plans tailored to wounds that have not responded to standard care.
  • Post-operative wound care – safe monitoring and support following surgery to promote healing and prevent complications.
  • Suture and clip removal – careful removal, with dressing application as required.
  • Lower limb wound care – including Doppler assessments to guide appropriate compression therapy.
  • Pressure injury prevention and treatment – targeted care to relieve and manage pressure wounds.
  • Full wound assessments for legal purposes – detailed, professional documentation for medico-legal cases.
  • Holistic, joined-up care – our Lead Nurse and Tissue Viability Nurse (TVN) liaise with your wider care team or specialists to ensure continuity of care.

With every appointment, our patients benefit from the knowledge of highly skilled, NMC-registered nurses in a CQC-registered setting, where safety, compassion, and professional standards come first.

Expertise, Compassion, and Continuity in Wound Care

At The Independent Nurse, our wound care service is led by highly experienced, NMC-registered professionals with a special interest and extensive experience in tissue viability and complex wound management.

Our service is built on years of hands-on experience and a commitment to evidence-based care. Whether you are recovering from surgery, managing a long-term condition, or dealing with a wound that has struggled to heal, we provide a structured, compassionate approach designed to deliver the best possible outcomes.

  • Specialist knowledge – Our Lead Nurse is a recognised Tissue Viability Nurse (TVN) with extensive experience in managing non-healing, surgical, and pressure wounds.
  • Compassionate care – We understand that living with a wound can be painful, stressful, and sometimes isolating. Our nurses are known in the community for their gentle, reassuring approach.
  • Holistic focus – We look beyond the wound itself, considering nutrition, lifestyle, and underlying health factors that may be impacting healing.
  • Collaborative approach – Our nurses work closely with GPs, surgeons, solicitors (for legal cases), and other specialists to ensure continuity of care and the best possible outcomes.
  • On-site prescribing – With an independent prescriber as part of our team, we are able to provide timely access to essential medications that might otherwise take weeks to receive through traditional NHS pathways. This ensures faster, safer treatment and supports smoother recovery.
  • Infection management – Where infection is suspected, we can carry out wound swabbing as part of your care, ensuring samples are processed quickly and results are shared with the relevant clinician to guide treatment.
  • Proven track record – Patients regularly share positive feedback about the quality of care, comfort, and results they have experienced with us.

With every appointment, you can feel confident that you are in safe hands, supported by nurses who combine technical expertise with genuine care for your wellbeing.
