Phlebotomy & Private Blood Tests in Bristol

Why Choose Private Phlebotomy?

At The Independent Nurse, you don’t have to wait for referrals or long NHS queues. Our Southmead clinic in Bristol offers fast, convenient appointments with experienced, NMC-registered nurses. We provide a calm, professional environment — ideal for anyone who finds blood tests difficult, including those with challenging venous access. As a fully CQC-registered service, we deliver safe, ethical care with clear clinical standards.

What This Service Includes

This is a blood collection only service. You must already have:

  • Booked an appointment via one of our partner testing providers and paid for the phlebotomy service add-on; or
  • Have obtained a test kit from a 3rd party laboratory or provider
  • Clear instructions for sample collection
  • A plan in place for interpretation of results by a qualified doctor

We do not arrange tests on behalf of patients. We believe all testing should be clinically justified and interpreted within the context of your full medical history, and this is best done by a clinician overseeing your care.

What We Do Not Offer

To ensure safe and sustainable practice, we do not currently:

  • Arrange or recommend specific blood tests
  • Interpret test results
  • Offer phlebotomy for children under 2 years of age
  • Offer same-day appointments or out-of-hours services

Rejected Sample Policy

We take every precaution to reduce the risk of sample rejection, including photographing samples to confirm correct labelling and packaging.

  • If a sample is rejected and it is confirmed to be due to a clinical error on our part, we will offer a repeat appointment free of charge.
  • If rejection is due to external factors (e.g. postal delays, haemolysis, laboratory processing delays): A repeat appointment will be charged at the standard rate.

Before Your Appointment

To support a successful blood draw, please ensure:

  • You are well hydrated (unless your test requires fasting)
  • You bring your full test kit with all required documentation
  • You have confirmed any special instructions with your test provider (e.g. fasting, timing, tube types)

Our phlebotomists are highly trained, but there are times when blood cannot be obtained. This can be due to dehydration, scarring, or other factors. In the event we are unable to draw blood, we will offer one free repeat appointment.

Posting Samples

If your test provider requires your sample to be centrifuged, we offer this service as part of our Phlebotomy with Centrifuge option. Please ensure your kit includes clear instructions and the appropriate tubes for centrifugation.

We can prepare your sample for posting on your behalf, and this includes packaging, sealing, and documentation. A £5 handling fee applies for this service.

Please note:

  • The £5 fee does not include postage.
  • If you would like us to post the sample, postage will be charged in addition to the handling fee.

We recommend confirming postage requirements with your test provider before booking.
