Welcome to The Independent Nurse

The Independent Nurse is a small, private nursing service based in Bristol. We’ve been registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) since 2022, and since then, we’ve supported both members of the public and professional providers with high-quality, evidence-based care.

Who We Work With

We support:

  • Individuals seeking private nursing input alongside or instead of NHS care.

  • Healthcare providers needing a CQC-registered nurse to support with treatment room tasks and specialist nursing services.

Our Approach to Care

We are committed to:

  • Providing evidence-based, regulatory-compliant care.

  • Working within clearly defined systems and processes.

  • Practising with integrity, honesty, and reflection.

We recognise that no healthcare system or professional is perfect. As part of our reflective practice, we are committed to:

  • Taking responsibility when mistakes are made.

  • Learning from them and making real changes to how we work.

  • Being honest when things go wrong — even when we believe our actions were appropriate.

This is known as a just culture, and it sits at the heart of how we care for our patients, how we support the organisations we work with, and how we treat our team.

Changes to Our Service Model

In order to continue offering sustainable and high-quality care, we’ve made some changes to how we operate:

  • We no longer offer out-of-hours or home appointments.

  • Our clinic is now open from 7:30am to 3:30pm on clinic days.

  • Post is collected at 3:45pm, so any samples taken can be sent the same day.

  • We now offer pre-booked appointments only — no same-day bookings.

  • Clinical advice is only available via a booked telephone appointment with a clinician.

  • Our administrator can help with bookings and queries, but will not provide clinical advice.

We’ve also made some thoughtful changes to the services we offer to ensure our practice remains in line with our values. You’ll find more information about these updates on the relevant pages throughout the site.

These changes reflect our desire to move away from the culture of speed, pressure, and constant availability, and towards a service that is:

  • Planned

  • Boundaried

  • Human-centred

We believe this leads to better care, better communication, and a healthier team.

Pricing with Integrity

We’re often asked about our prices, and we believe in being transparent. The prices you see reflect what’s needed to run a safe, regulated, and sustainable nursing service. This includes:

  • Clinical staff pay

  • Administrative support

  • Insurance

  • Clinical resources

  • Regulated oversight

  • And the time and care it takes to do things properly

We know some services advertise lower-cost nursing support. Before engaging with any provider, we encourage people to check that they are:

  • Registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC)

  • Regulated by the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC)

  • Fully insured for independent nursing care

Unfortunately, not all healthcare professionals realise they need to be CQC-registered to lawfully provide healthcare in the UK — particularly in private practice. While this may not always come from bad intent, it can affect your safety and protection as a patient.

As part of our mission to offer care that is evidence-based, ethical, and safe, we are:

  • Fully CQC registered

  • NMC regulated

  • And appropriately insured for all the services we provide

We advocate for patients to only use services that meet this standard as a minimum. We also believe that pricing must reflect the true cost of safe care — so that services can be sustained without compromise.

Looking Ahead

We’re building a small, values-driven space for healthcare. One where:

  • Patients are treated with compassion and honesty.

  • Staff are respected, supported, and protected from burnout.

  • Care is thoughtful, considered, and responsive — not rushed or reactive.

If this resonates with you, we would love to welcome you to our service.
